Top 3 Problems to Anticipate in Your Vending Business

Lisa Printz - Wednesday, May 21, 2014

Every business will definitely have their set of problems. This is no different for the vending machine business. When you decide to embark on this journey, you need to anticipate the problems that may come up along the way.

Here are the top three on our list:

Vandalism

The neighborhood may be clean but you never know when your machines will be sprayed by paint or receive a few painful cuts. To prevent this, try to place your machines indoors instead of outdoors. If this is not possible, you can look around for brightly lit areas or those with security cameras.

If your machine does get vandalized, it should be cleaned and repaired as quickly as possible to keep the traffic coming in regularly.

Refund Issues

When a machine does not work properly, some customers will ask for a refund. Ensure that you checked through the operating machine to see if their monies are retrievable. Otherwise, analyze the situation with the customers and provide a refund where necessary.

This is important because you want to maintain a good relationship with your end users. This goes to brand building, which will continue to bring traffic to your machines.

Low Sales

Unfortunately, some machines do not make profits as much as others. This can be based on many different factors. First of all, it's best to check the machine to make sure that it's working properly and to ask the business owner if customers have been complaining about any issues. If this isn't the problem, the issue could be the cost, the products that are offered, the competition in the area or the location of the machines.

This can take a bit of troubleshooting, but one shouldn't worry too much; instead, it's a good idea to inspect various options and to make a few changes. For example, one could try swapping out products or moving the machine to an area with a better traffic flow. It can take a bit of trial and error, but lack of sales can generally be fixed with a bit of research and time.

Conclusion

In a nutshell, these problems are not necessarily difficult to solve. In fact, if you handle customer relations in an excellent manner, your customers will have better impression of you and the vending business and ultimately, more sales will come right after.
